Square and Compass – Melbourne eats.

Tucked away in East Melbourne, J and I found ourselves brunching at Square and Compass.

The interior is gorgeous. Simple, clean, with an authentic feel – quite similar to Barry in Northcote (which one of the owners has been associated with).

The menu is fascinating. With a distinct health-conscious tone, I opted for the porridge.

Five grain porridge, roasted apple puree, spiced crumble $13.50.

Utterly mouthwatering – texturally pleasing, the five grain porridge had a far more compelling consistency than oats alone. Combined with the flavoursome spiced crumble, and the sweetness of the apple puree, this is no doubt an exceedingly high quality porridge.

Soaked steel cut oats, yogurt, seeds, fruits $14.50

J ordered the bircher, and boy oh boy, this look amazing! Presentation on both dishes was beyond excellent, as it certainly added to the overall satisfaction of the food. J certainly seemed to enjoy it.

Kudos to the staff, as they were friendly and welcoming the entire time. This is certainly a highly polished team.

East Melbourne, you have yourself a winner with Square and Compass. With a charming, comfortable atmosphere, top notch food, and neighbourly staff, I look forward to returning in the future.
