Mastic – Melbourne eats.

Weekday brunching, I visited Mastic last week – Hellenic’s new clean eating cafe in Kew. DSC_0975

Next door to Hellenic Republic, Mastic is all about “The Hellenic Diet – lifestyle, health and happiness”. The interior exudes simplistic sophistication – with clean, neutral colours, and a welcoming atmosphere. Its’s a lovely place to start the day. The menu was impressive, offering a decent variety of breakfast and lunch options (including fruit smoothies, and sparkling probiotic drinks). After some initial indecisiveness, I opted for the acai bircher. Acai berry bircher – with banana & almonds$9.00

The ingredients were minimal, but the flavour was spot on. The sweetness of the acai and banana, combined wonderfully with the crunchiness of the almonds, to deliver a rather enjoyable bircher. I’ve had better in Melbourne, but it was still satisfying.

The wait staff were friendly, but they forgot my peppermint tea order, which I find fairly irritating, especially on weekday mornings when I’m usually on a schedule. Thankfully, they took the order off the bill, and the mint tea (after eventually arriving) was divine – using real mint leaves.

Mastic certainly has a lot going for it, including a gorgeous interior and alluring menu, but for me, unfortunately, it didn’t provide a great lasting impression due to the efficiency shortcomings on the day.

Until next time, happy noms 🙂
